When planning my trip to Lisbon, one of the most significant logistics I had to plan was how I would get around the city. How would I get to and from the airport, see tourist attractions, or have short-duration day trips?

If Uber is one of the main methods of transportation that you like to use when traveling, you’ll be pleased to know that it runs very efficiently in the capital.
Lisbon is one of the many locations in Portugal where the rideshare app currently has operations.
However, you are not limited to using Uber as your only form of transportation. There are several other options available that you can use for getting around Lisbon.
In addition, you’ll find that some of these options are less expensive than Uber and may be a better match for your travel plans.
Lisbon Airport Uber Pickup Location
Unlike taxi pickups, the Humberto Delgado Airport Uber pickup location is not in the arrivals area. To get there, you must go to the departures area in Terminal 1 near the P1 parking area (also known as Kiss & Fly parking area).
After you clear customs and reach the arrivals hall, take an escalator to the right of the airport exit doors and go one floor up. Next, on the floor above, go straight ahead and take the first exit on the left.
When you get outside, follow the zebra crossing and turn right. After passing the bus that takes passengers from T1 to T2, make a left and cross another zebra crossing. Finally, you will see the Kiss & Fly lot and people exiting Ubers with luggage.
Once you finally reach the pickup area, you can request your ride to your destination in Lisbon.
While it seems like many steps, there is no need to worry. If you still have trouble finding the Uber pickup location, helpful airport staff can assist if needed.

How Much is Uber from Lisbon Airport to City Center?
The cost of an Uber from Lisbon Airport can depend on the requested time, the demand, and how far you need to go.
However, generally speaking, it will cost 7-15€ ($8-16) to go from the airport to the city center for an UberX.
Despite that, you can choose from even less expensive options to get to the center, including the metro and Aerobus. The Aerobus will cost 3.80€ ($4), while the Metro will cost 1.50€ ($1.7) for a single journey.
How Much is a Lisbon Uber?
During your time in Lisbon, you may find that Ubers are far less expensive than in the States and other places in Europe. Different factors cause the price to vary, such as the time during the day you request the Uber and the distance traveled.

Is Uber in Lisbon Safe?
Overall, yes, Uber is considered to be a safe rideshare service. The company has multiple safety measures to guarantee that passengers and riders are safe throughout the journey. Their most recently released safety reports showed that 99.9% of rides had no incidents.
Throughout my multiple Uber rides during my vacation, I didn’t have a single negative experience as a solo female traveler. I found all drivers kind and professional, getting me to where I needed to be on time.

With its increased availability and lower rates, Uber is far more convenient in Lisbon than in other cities.
However, there are other transportation methods in Lisbon that you can choose that can offer an even better price and provide a more unique experience and flexibility.
Trams in Lisbon
One of the first things that may come to mind when you picture Lisbon is the yellow trams running through the city’s hills. The trams are a part of the city’s uniqueness and offer a charming way of exploring Lisbon’s different districts.
They have been running since 1873 and are known for their yellow color and vintage design. The most favored route is Tram 28, which is the most scenic and goes to Lisbon’s popular neighborhoods. Riding the tram is a must-do experience in Lisbon.
There are separate routes through Lisbon, assisted by 58 trams. The tram routes and schedules can be viewed on the Carris website here. Most trams are vintage for you to experience on your trip.
Tram Price
This popular tourist attraction and transportation method only costs 3€ (US$ 3.30) for a single ticket. These can be purchased onboard at the ticket boxes inside the Articulado trams or by the driver on the Remodelado (vintage yellow ones) trams, but they need exact change.
For more convenience, you can purchase tickets ahead of time at the metro station.
A 24-hour ticket is also available for 6.60€ ($7.3). These are purchased at a metro station and other selling points on the Viva Viagem card, which costs .50€ ($.55) and can be reloaded for one year. The card includes all the trams, buses, and the metro, a convenience if your trip is dispersed.
👉TRAVEL TIP: Only one person can use the Viva Viagem card. If you are in a group, ensure each person gets a card.
Taxis in Lisbon
Taxis are an additional way of getting around Lisbon if you don’t want to use public transportation or drive yourself. They are all around the city and have distinguished black and green or beige colors.
It’s easy to find one by flagging a car down in the street or going to a taxi stand.
Remember that you may run into a driver who doesn’t speak English, so learn a few Portuguese phrases to help and respect the culture. Additionally, it helps to have the address written down somewhere or Google Maps pulled up on your phone.
Taxi Price
Lisbon taxis tend to cost more than a standard UberX, but it’s not a dramatic increase. They have a minimum rate of 3.25€ ($3.55), with each kilometer costing .47€ ($.51). During 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM, expect around a 20% surcharge.
Lastly, Lisbon taxis’ standing and waiting times are 14.8€ ($16.1) per hour, and luggage fees are 1.6€ ($1.74).
Buses in Lisbon
In addition to the trams, buses are a popular public transportation option in the capital. There are 88 different bus routes in Lisbon. The routes can be found on the same website as the trams here.
Most buses will operate from 6:00 AM through 9:00 PM—Lisbon’s most popular routes, which include 702, 708, 744, and 750, run until midnight.

A single-fare bus ticket will cost 2€ ($2.18). You can purchase the tickets directly from the bus driver. However, as previously mentioned, you can also get a 24-hour ticket for 6.60€ ($7.3) with the Viva Viagem card, which costs 0.5€.
