Once there, Corfu is a nature lover’s paradise with stunning beaches, adventurous hiking trails, forest-filled valleys, picturesque fishing villages, historic towns, and soaring coastal peaks.

The island is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Corfu Town, a must-see during a trip to Greece. Corfu Town is a great place to explore and appreciate the island’s history and beautiful Venetian architecture.

Whether you’re seeking an adventure trip, beach getaway, or party vacation, the island offers plenty of activity options for everyone.

The sheer number of beaches in Corfu alone is enough to occupy your time. How many are there, you ask? Around 60! You could spend weeks and weeks visiting different beaches and still not see them all.

The island becomes lively, with peak activity in the summer months of July and August. The shoulder season months of May, June, September, and October also present great times to visit the island.

Corfu is also a transportation hub of the Greek islands that is well connected to many international destinations.

The island’s Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport (CFU) offers seasonal international and year-round domestic flights to and from Athens. Additionally, numerous ferries arrive and depart from global hot spots in nearby countries such as Albania.

While many travelers visit Greece looking to spend their days relaxing and unwinding on a picturesque beach, there’s so much more to Corfu than strips of sand (even though all of them are beautiful!)

It’s a mecca for those seeking rich culture, delicious cuisine, historic sites, and dreamy sunsets. Some of my favorite things to do in Corfu are below:

1. Corfu Old Town

This breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site is a maze of colorful Venetian architecture and history. Vibrant buildings, centuries-old churches, and towering fortresses line the city’s cobblestone streets.

While there, check out the many different and delicious restaurants and cafes in the area. In addition to traditional, tasty Greek cuisine, you will find great Italian food on the island due to its history.

Corfu Old Town is a great place to spend 1-3 days exploring or to use as a home base for the island. Corfu Old Town’s most popular sites and attractions include the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon, the Old Fortress of Corfu, and Mon Repos Estate Park.

2. Porto Timoni

What’s better than one beautiful Mediterranean beach? Well, two, of course… side-by-side, that is. Close to the town of Afionas, this double beach is a popular day trip destination known for its picturesque views, sublime snorkeling, and seclusion between lush forests.

Given these points, it’s unsurprising that Porto Timoni is one of Corfu’s most popular attractions!

Reaching the main viewpoints takes around 20 minutes, and getting to the beaches takes an additional 10 minutes. Several signs along the way assist you as you journey to the views and the beach. Locals in Afionas can also help you with any questions before starting.

👉TRAVEL TIP: There are two main car parks in Afionas. I recommend going as early as possible, as both can reach capacity. If available, you can park on the street.

While the hike may be short, it can get very hot with little shade. Make sure that you bring enough water and wear comfortable shoes. The path is quite rocky at some points.

3. Cape Drastis

While only accessible by boat, the beach at Cape Drastis is an absolute must-see when visiting Corfu. Its spectacular towering white cliffs starkly compare to the jet-blue waters of the Ionian Sea below.

The unspoiled nature surrounding the beach is home to wildlife and numerous flora and fauna. Tourists love to come here to swim, snorkel, cliff dive, and take in a classic Greek sunset during good weather conditions.

As mentioned, you can only get up close and personal with Cape Drastis by boat. However, a short walk from Sidari will take you to a few viewpoints, where you can appreciate the beautiful sights.

👉TRAVEL TIP: There is a small, and I mean small, car park before the path begins. As another popular attraction, it does not have enough spots to meet the demand. That said, you will most likely have to park carefully on the side of the surrounding roads.

Going further along the path, you will reach Gravas Cove in about 10-15 minutes, where you can swim and take boat rides.

4. Canal D’Amour

Canal d’Amour Beach boasts a unique canal nicknamed the “tunnel of love” for its crystal clear turquoise with jagged cliffs and hidden caverns. Legend states that couples that swim here will be together forever.

Idyllic sandy beaches make Canal d’Amour a great spot to grab a beach chair or towel for a relaxing day or a private boat for adventure on the water. There are also plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants nearby the beach if you fancy a mid-day cocktail or lunch.

👉TRAVEL TIP: While you can cliff jump here, do so at your own risk. Unfortunately, there have been fatalities due to unpredictable, intense waves.

Whether you’re seeking a romantic moment or want to enjoy another one of Corfu’s gems, Canal D’Amour has something anyone can appreciate.

5. Paleokastritsa 

If you’re looking for heaven in Corfu, you’ll find it at Paleokastritsa. This area is home to six sand-and-pebble-filled beaches surrounded by clusters of olive trees! You can enjoy numerous water activities here, including canoeing, boating, paddleboarding, swimming, and snorkeling.

If you prefer to relax, you can rent a beach chair, grab a drink at a beach bar, or savor lunch at a nearby restaurant. There are plenty of them, so the options are endless!

In addition, if you have the time, ensure you don’t miss the Paleokastritsa Monastery! The scenic monastery is on top of a hill and provides far-reaching views of Paleokastritsa’s surroundings.

6. Logas Sunset Beach

If there’s one beach you visit during your time in Corfu, make sure it is Logas Sunset Beach in the northwest near Sidari.

Perched along the Ionian Sea underneath towering vertical cliffs with lush vegetation, it’s one of the most scenic beaches on Corfu island. It offers opportunities to catch some sun, relax, or swim.

As the name suggests, this beach’s main attraction is the sunsets – and they are stunning.

However, before you depart for your beach day, check the weather. The northern winds often impact this beach, making conditions less than enjoyable. Once you’re in clear weather, you can expect a memorable sunset.

Perched above Logas is 7th Heaven Cafe. The panoramic views offered by this cafe are incredible, and it even has a glass skywalk that feels unreal! Ensure you arrive at least an hour before sunset, as this place gets packed!

7. La Grotta Bar

Once you trek down 142 steps, La Grotta Bar is a dreamy site well worth visiting in Corfu. A sizable dining area with sun loungers and umbrellas hovers above the beach below, surrounded by towering cliffs and high rocks. You can expect upscale cocktails, snacks, and lively evening music here.

👉TRAVEL TIP: While it may look like it, La Grotta is not a hidden gem. That said, you need to arrive as close to the opening time of 11 AM to get the seat of your choice.

If you bring your swimwear, you can even plunge into the clear sea below from the bar’s plunge bοаrd in front оf the bar. If you’re up for it, there’s even a spot for cliff jumping.

8. Beach Clubs

With so many gorgeous beaches on the island of Corfu, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of top-rated beach clubs to accompany them.

As one of the most popular destinations among the Ionian Greek islands, Corfu’s scenic beaches and lively atmosphere have made beach clubs a top choice for many travelers. 

At many beach clubs, you can sample delicious Greek cuisine and the freshest seafood while sipping local wines and spirits. Many beach clubs also feature music, live DJs, and fun weekly events such as neon parties and full moon celebrations.

Some of Corfu’s most popular beach clubs include Malibu Summer, Edem Beach Club, and Akron Beach Bar. 

9. Day Trip to Paxos and Antipaxos

It would be a crime to visit Corfu and not explore the nearby islands of Paxos and Antipaxos. Ok, maybe not a literal crime, but you would be missing out! About a one to two-hour boat from Corfu, it’s a true playground for nature lovers.

The larger island of Paxos is home to the famous Blue Caves, linked together and surrounded by striking blue water. 

On the other hand, Antipaxos is nearly uninhabited but features some of the bluest water imaginable! It’s easy to see why this is a popular day trip and worth visiting in Corfu.

They are prime grounds for swimming and snorkeling and are believed to be where the Greek God Poseidon lived with his wife, Amphitrite.

The best way to experience these islands is to book a guided tour with a local company from Corfu. These tours often include transportation to and from your hotel, lunch, and stops at hidden gems throughout the day.

10. Giali Beach

When describing Giali Beach, a popular phrase is used by all who visit it: “The beach that brings you one step closer to paradise.” Once you lay eyes on its other-worldly landscape, it makes sense.

Seemingly untouched by tourist infrastructure, this hidden paradise is the ultimate spot for a day of relaxation and tranquility. No wonder it’s considered one of the best beaches in Corfu!

Giali Beach is part of a series of deserted beaches that begins at the village of Liapades. Home to clear, electric green waters scattered with rugged rocks, you can reach this pebble beach in two ways: via a strenuous yet rewarding hike or by boat.

👉TRAVEL TIP: Unlike other trails mentioned in this post, Giali’s is more challenging. You must wear proper shoes and be prepared for a steep descent with potential falling rocks.

The trail features wooden ladders and rope courses for both the descent and ascent and takes roughly an hour to complete each way. Despite the harder access, it is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and is worth visiting in Corfu!

11. The Nightlife 

As one of the more lively Greek islands, Corfu is home to several bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. So, if you can’t make it to the Cyclades for nightlife, Corfu is a great option! Cozy wine bars, traditional tavernas, upscale seafood restaurants, and clubs can be found.

There are seemingly endless clubs and lounge bars scattered in towns around the island, many of which stay open into the early morning hours. Some of the most popular clubs on the island include Fabric Club at Acharavi, Yard Club in Corfu Town, and Pazuzu Club in Glyfada.

If you want to stay in a village with the most nightlife, your best options are Sidari, Kavos, Ipsos, and Corfu Town.

Paleokatrista is a favorite destination in Corfu and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Corfu. Hidden away on the shores of a rocky bay on the Ionian Sea, it’s surrounded by cliffs and rich vegetation.

Just 24 minutes from Corfu Town, it’s an extremely affordable destination with dozens of quality resorts and hotels.

Kavos

Travelers seeking action, a lively nightlife scene, and budget-friendly options will find it in Kavos.

A little over an hour from Corfu Town, Kavos boasts a 1.2-mile (2 km) long road with bars and clubs, live music, beach parties, and restaurants for late-night eats. During the day, there are plenty of opportunities to partake in adventurous water activities and sports.

👉TRAVEL TIP: Kavos was my least favorite area I visited while in Corfu. It is full of younger British partiers, which can become quite disruptive if you wish to avoid that.

However, aim for at least 5 to 7 days to explore multiple island regions. I spent nine days in Corfu and still need to return to experience more!

Is Corfu Safe? 

Corfu is considered to be a generally safe destination for travelers, both solo and with others. The likelihood of falling victim to crime or violent crime is very low, and the locals are usually very peaceful and welcoming.

However, as with any destination, being aware of your surroundings is always a good idea. Keep track of your belongings and plan for any unforeseen disruptions with travel insurance. 

Is Corfu Good for Nightlife?

Corfu has a vivid nightlife and is a popular destination for younger travelers and university students. In fact, it’s known as one of the most popular party islands in Europe!

There are numerous things to do in Corfu after the sun goes down, including cocktails at a swanky bar, dinner at a beach club, or partying it up at a rooftop or beach party. If you want a late night, head to the Kavos neighborhood – the clubbing capital of Corfu! 

Is Corfu Expensive?

To be one of the more famous Greek islands, Corfu certainly has better prices than Cyclades islands such as Santorini.

Being a bigger island, it offers a range of budget-friendly to luxurious options for travelers. However, just like anywhere in Greece, you will see higher prices during summer.

A mid-range vacation in Corfu costs an average of $110-200 (€101-184) per person daily. This includes daily meals, hotels, and local transportation. If you’re backpacking, it can be as low as $65 (€60) and $210 or more (€194) for high-end budgets.

There are ways to save money on your Corfu vacation. First, plan your vacation during the low seasons of April to May and September to October. Second, venture inland for less expensive meals and cocktails.

Lastly, take advantage of free activities such as hiking, beach days, visiting monasteries, or simply strolling around towns and villages.

How To Get Around Corfu?

Regarding getting around Corfu, the least expensive way is by bus. The bus offers routes around the island and to the airport. You can view the routes and timetables of the Green Buses here.

However, the buses do not visit many of the island’s gems. Taxis can also get expensive and harder to order in more remote areas. That said, a car is the best option if you want to visit several attractions and regions across the island.

It’s important to note the driving conditions in Corfu. The roads can narrow, and some are very winding due to the many mountains. Given that, be sure to be cautious to prevent the risk of a potential accident.
